Continuous Professional Development

Language is constantly evolving and translators need to stay engaged with their working languages, their areas of expertise and other professional skills. For this reason, I regularly attend seminars and workshops to keep up to date with developments in the industry.

In this section, I keep a list of some of the events and courses I have attended, articles I have contributed and other activities of interest.

List of academic qualifications

MSc in Translation and Conference Interpreting (Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh).
Diploma in Public Service Interpreting (Institute of Linguists).
BA in English Language and Literature (University of Deusto, Spain) – One year as an Erasmus exchange student at the University of Manchester.
Cambridge Proficiency in English and First Certificate in English.

I regularly contribute articles to the ITI Bulletin, the bimonthly publication of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting, (book reviews, event reports, etc.) and other publications (trend reviews, travel pieces, etc.) [English and Spanish].

Other professional activities

I am a qualified Member (MITI) of the Institute of Translation and Interpreting, the independent professional association for practising translators and interpreters in the United Kingdom, and participate actively in its activities. This includes:

contributing articles to the ITI's bimonthly magazine, the ITI Bulletin.
editing the newsletter of the ITI Scottish Network.
mentoring a fledgling translator in a pilot mentoring scheme set up by the ITI Spanish Network.
membership of the ITI Media, Arts and Tourism Network.

Academic career

I also keep myself immersed in my languages through teaching. I taught Spanish at the University of Edinburgh for eight years, three of these as Course Director for Spanish. And I am still involved in the world of education through my work as External Examiner for the International Baccalaureate Organisation.
